Why I Built The Trading Terminal

The Problem

I used to journal my trades in a spreadsheet. Every forex trader I know started that way. You make a few columns — date, pair, direction, entry, exit, P&L — and for a week or two it feels productive. Then you want to know which setup is actually making you money, or whether London session trades outperform New York, and the spreadsheet can't answer that without an hour of manual work.

So you look at the paid trading journals. Most of them cost $30–$50 a month. Some gate basic analytics behind their highest tier. Some look like they were built in 2015 and haven't been touched since. And almost all of them assume you're trading US equities — try logging a gold or NAS100 trade and half the fields don't make sense.

I wanted something that did three things:

  1. Told me which setups and confluences are actually profitable — not in theory, but measured against my own trade data
  2. Put a dollar figure on my mistakes — not "you made mistakes this week" but "revenge trading cost you $847 this month"
  3. Worked for forex, gold, crypto, indices — the instruments retail traders actually trade, not just US equities

Nothing I found did all three. So I built it.

What I Ended Up Building

The Trading Terminal is 16 modules in one platform. The core is a trade journal with 30+ fields per trade — but the journal is just the input. The output is what matters:

  • 50+ analytics views that break down performance by setup, session, confluence, direction, timeframe, day of week and more
  • Mistake Cost Analysis — tag mistakes on trades and the system calculates exactly what each mistake type costs you per month
  • Trader DNA — a profiling system that shows where your edge actually comes from, broken down by nine dimensions
  • Edge Score — a composite 0–100 rating from six weighted signals that tracks whether your edge is improving or deteriorating
  • Risk Desk — daily risk budget, distance to breach, trailing drawdown tracking — works for live accounts, prop firm evaluations, or anything in between
  • Do Not Trade rules that warn you before entering trades when conditions have historically lost you money
  • Trade Lab — named strategies with automatic stat tracking, comparison tables, and danger-zone alerts

It connects to cTrader via one-click OAuth and to MT4/MT5 through a free Expert Advisor. Or you can import from any platform via CSV. Or just log manually — whatever works.

Why It's Free

The Free tier isn't a 7-day trial. It's a real, permanent plan: trade journal, dashboard with equity curve and P&L calendar, accounts manager, position size calculator, economic calendar, market sessions, setups and confluences playbook, and prop firms comparison guide. One account, 30 trades per month, 90 days of history. No card required.

Most traders need a journal. Not all of them need 50+ analytics views or strategy comparison tables. The free plan covers journaling. If the analytics prove themselves useful — and I think they will — upgrading should feel obvious, not forced.

Pro is $19 AUD/month. It unlocks unlimited trades, full history, all analytics, Trader DNA, Edge Score, Trading Seasons and session performance. Elite is $29 AUD/month and adds Trade Lab, Risk Desk, Do Not Trade, unlimited accounts and broker sync.

Who It's For

Every trader who takes data seriously. It doesn't matter what stage you're at:

  • Live accounts — track real P&L, find your actual edge, stop guessing which setups work
  • Prop firm evaluations — Risk Desk tracks drawdown in real time, Do Not Trade warns you before conditions that historically blow challenges
  • Demo accounts — build the journaling habit before real money is on the line, and use analytics to prove whether your edge is real before funding
  • Backtesting — import historical trades via CSV, let Trade Lab grade your strategy, then go live with data instead of hunches

If you trade forex, gold, crypto or indices — whether you're on a live account, a funded challenge, a demo or backtesting a new strategy — The Trading Terminal is built for you.

What Makes This Different

Every trading journal says "track your trades." That's table stakes. The difference is what happens after you log the trade.

Most journals give you a P&L chart and call it analytics. The Trading Terminal gives you Mistake Cost Analysis that tells you revenge trading cost you $1,200 last month. It gives you confluence win-rate charts that show your "OB + BOS" confluence combination wins 71% of the time while "FVG only" loses. It gives you setup performance ranking that proves your Asian session scalps are underwater while your London breakouts print.

That's not logging. That's diagnosing. And once you can see the diagnosis, the fix is usually obvious.

What's Next

The roadmap is driven by what traders actually ask for. Right now the product has 16 modules, 50+ analytics views, three broker integrations and a free tier that's more capable than most paid journals. But this is day one.

If you've been looking for a trading journal that doesn't charge $50/month for analytics, doesn't gate the features you need behind the highest tier, and actually supports the instruments you trade — give it a try. It's free. If it's useful, you'll know within a week.

16 modules. 50+ analytics views. Free forever, no card required.
